First ever Tunisian film festival comes to London
25-26 September 2021
ATUGE UK, Association of top Tunisian professionals in the UK, is launching the first ever Tunisian Film Festival, on 25-26 September at Rich Mix in London.
The event will pay tribute to Tunisian cinema, often referred to as one of the most daring of all Arab cinemas.
The name of the festival, ALYSSA- Tunisian Film Festival, is based on the legendary Queen Alyssa.
It will highlight Tunisia as a worthy source globally of independent and art cinema. With the country’s first Oscar nomination this year, Tunisia becomes the fifth country from Africa to be nominated for the international feature film honour.

ALYSSA
Dido also known as Alyssa or Elissa was the legendary foundress and first queen of Carthage, located in modern Tunisia.
Her dramatic story starts with the murder of her beloved husband by her own brother. His ghost reveals hidden treasure and she runs away with it to establish a new city.
Her life ends with a suicide when she refuses to get married to another king.

A North African mother who fights every day for her children, and carries on various trades, forgetting her desires and her life as a woman.
